Almetek Industries hosted its annual Health and Safety Week from May 1st-May 5th. This is a week organized by our Human Resources Generalist to educate and create awareness of important health and safety topics.
We started the week off with a visit from our friends at the Mount Olive Township Fire Marshal’s Office. The Fire Inspector spoke to us about fire safety and prevention both at work and at home. They also conducted hands-on fire extinguisher training exercises using a fire simulation device. Almetek gave out fire extinguishers to two lucky winners. Later that week, the dedicated Officers of the Mount Olive Police Department stopped by to discuss workplace violence prevention and active threat responses. Both sessions contained invaluable information for our staff.
Almetek was happy to host a Bio-Metric Screening Clinic which was conducted by a skilled Atlantic Health System Clinician. It was a great opportunity for staff to check their health vitals right here in the office! A mental health day was randomly given out to one lucky participant later that afternoon. The Clinician spoke with us about integrating healthy habits into our busy schedules. We also talked about how to make healthy choices to take control of our health, decrease stress and prevent health conditions.
On Thursday our Safety Manager had a presentation about different ways to keep ourselves safe while working in both the factory and office. Topics included hand injury prevention, “line of fire” awareness, and the importance of assessing a task for potential hazards and necessary PPE before starting.
The last day of Health and Safety Week was dedicated to fitness. Dena from Gold’s Gym of Hackettstown conducted a high energy, all levels fitness class. Many employees joined in the fun and we raffled off a fitness watch to one lucky participant.
Health and Safety Week is the most important week of the year at Almetek. Although we take safety seriously every day, this week is a time to revisit many important subjects pertaining to health and safety in our jobs and personal lives. It is a reminder to always keep ourselves and our coworkers safe. Almetek is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for all our valuable employees.
